Asbury Man, 23, charged with weapons possession
Ocean PD: 380 Ruger semiautomatic pistol serial number scratched off
A 23-year-old Asbury Park man was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, according to an Ocean Township Police Department news release.
Eddy Vilus was found to be in possession of a loaded .380 Ruger semiautomatic pistol, officials said. The weapon’s serial number had been scratched off beyond recognition.
Vilus also was charged with possession of a defaced firearm, concealing a defaced firearm, being a certain person not to have weapons, and evidence tampering.
The arrest came following an ongoing investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, officials said.
Detectives arrested Vilus at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the NJ State Parole Offices in Red Bank and he was transported to Ocean Township Police headquarters for processing.
He was remanded to Monmouth County Jail, in lieu of a $25,0000 cash only bail, set by Municipal Court Judge Timothy McGoughran.
Ocean Township Police Det. Sgt. Gregory Tongring, and Detectives Bryan Morgan, Mike Legg, and Raheem Carter assisted in the investigation and arrest.
