ASBURY PARK ANNOUNCES MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND EVENTS
Beach Opens, Fire Dept & VFW Annual Services, & Fireworks on Agenda
The unofficial kick off for the summer seasons opens this Memorial Day weekend with a few annual events in Asbury Park, city officials have announced.
The holiday weekend’s national significance will be recognized during the annual The Asbury Park Fire Department and VFW Harold Daley Post 1333 services to recognize and remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The services begin 9 a.m. Monday at Fireman’s Park on Main Street, between Fifth Avenue and Sunset Avenue when the fire department will honor its fallen members. At 10 a.m. Monday in Veterans Memorial Park on Fifth Avenue between Grand Avenue and Webb Street, the local VFW will honor remember the veterans who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation.
“It’s always important to remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy our freedoms and liberties today,” VFW Commander Frank Brogna [at right] said in a written statement.
City offices will be closed Monday observance of the holiday.
On Sunday, boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette kicks off the summer season with its annual fireworks display. Set to start at 9 p.m., the Paramount Theatre Mezzanine will host a viewing party, featuring a cash bar. Doors open at 8 p.m. and there will be a $10 admission.
On Friday Triumphant Life Church returns with their annual Memorial Day Carnival, running from noon to 11 p.m. through Monday across the street from Convention Hall in Bradley Park. Highlights include classic carnival games, rides, prizes, and food.
The beach officially opens for the summer season this weekend. Lifeguards will be on duty and buoys and ropes will mark off swimming areas from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
Seasonal and daily beach badges are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends at the Boardwalk Beach Office at First Avenue. To contact the Beach Office, call 732-502-8863.
