Asbury Park Democratic Committee Reorganizes
Grillo unanimously elected to a third term as Chairman
The Asbury Park Democratic Committee reorganized 9 p.m. Tuesday following a write campaign that resulted in new and returning representatives throughout the city’s nine voting districts.
While all 18 representatives did not attend the organizational meeting, those who did unanimously voted to appoint Chairman Joe Grillo into a third term.
“I am incredibly humbled and honored to be reelected for a third term as chair of the most diverse, dynamic and active municipal party in Monmouth County,” said Grillo [shown at right with Ahbez Anderson]. “I am especially proud to stand beside our newly elected Vice Chairwoman Angela Ahbez Anderson, an accomplished leader in the community.”
Ahbez Anderson, the current Board of Education President, is the female representative in District 5 alongside her husband Calvin, elected corresponding secretary Tuesday night.
Other organizational officers include Joseph Pepe as treasurer, Jessie Ricks as recording secretary, and Daniel Harris as sergeant at arms.
“The Asbury Park Democrats have always stood as a voice for our city’s progressive values of equality, inclusion and civic activism,” Grillo said. “As such, our primary goal this year is to register and mobilize 400 new Asbury Park residents in the run up to the November general election and make sure that we never have to say the words President Donald Trump.”
According to their Facebook page, the Asbury Park Democratic Committee is “comprised of elected committeepersons – dedicated to furthering the principles of the Democratic Party in Asbury Park, engaging the community to get politically involved, and volunteering to get Democrats elected.”
This year, Grillo spearheaded town hall forums [shown below] to educate the city’s voters in the behind the scenes platforms for Democratic Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders as well as a meet and greet with Rep. Frank Pallone Jr, D-6th District.
Diversity on our committee:
“We have representation from our City Council, Board of Education and activists from both the African American community and the LGBTQ community,” Grillo said. “We are comprised of small business owners, teachers and deacons. Our committee includes both lifelong and new residents – all working together to ensure Asbury Park continues to be the most progressive and inclusive city in Monmouth County.
