The Asbury Park Democrats will be kicking off a host of events in the months of April and May to get residents politically activated and registered to vote, starting with a 9 a.m. Saturday Breakfast Reception at St. Stephen’s AME Zion Church on Springwood Avenue, Chair Joe Grillo said.

The breakfast will take place before the non-partisan and ‘open to the public’ Asbury Park Community Action Network and City of Asbury Park-sponsored program featuring former Gov. Jim McGreevey at 10 a.m., Grillo said.

Volunteers will be on hand to register residents to vote, organizers said. Those who have recently released from incarceration and have completed their parole are eligible to register to vote again.

The group will also conduct a 1 p.m.  April 21 Asbury Park Canvassing Day at 521 Cookman Ave, being held in conjunction with the Monmouth Democrats. The event is aimed at not only registering new voters and new residents, but also for those who have moved from one residence within the city to another, Grillo said.

“We do this to prevent any problems when residents go to polls to vote,” Grillo said. “We will also be encouraging already-registered voters to apply to vote by mail.”

Other upcoming events hosted or supported by the Asbury Park Democrats include the following:

7 to 9 p.m. April 27 Fundraiser for Trenton mayoral candidate Reed Gusciora, being held at 100 Emory St, Apt. 505.

6 to 8 p.m. April 27 Planned Parenthood Condom Crawl, RSVP Here for location.
