Asbury Park Dems name executive board members
County freeholder hopeful Joe Grillo re-elected as chairman
The Asbury Park Democratic Committee on Monday selected the members of their executive board, according to a news release from the organization.
Joe Grillo [shown above] was re-elected as chairman and Donna Harrison [at right] as vice chair. Angela Ahbez-Anderson was selected as recording secretary, Trudie Syphax as treasurer and Duanne Small was selected as Sgt. at Arms.
“As a proud resident of Asbury Park, I’m honored to have the trust and support of its municipal Democratic party to continue as chairman,” said Grillo, one of two Democratic candidates in the running for Monmouth County Freeholder this year. “I’m proud to have a diverse and dynamic group of committee people from all parts of town and all walks of life. As residents of Asbury Park — a city where 85% of its voters are registered Democrats — we are united and ready to commit to the betterment of our community and to win in November.”
“I’m thrilled to be elected vice chair of the Asbury Park Democrats,” stated Ms. Harrison, a 14-year resident. “I look forward to working with our committee to increase voter participation and activity in our city and Monmouth County.”
At their biennial reorganization meeting, the committee resolved to register 200 to 400 residents to vote in this year’s general election, and to volunteer in community environmental and beautification projects.
The Democratic committee holds elections every two years for two representatives — one male, one female — from each of the city’s nine election districts. The Democratic committee is responsible for overseeing the Democratic party’s interests in the city. Each member also votes for the county Democratic chairperson, as well as for the chairperson of the organization in Asbury Park.
Asbury Park historically votes overwhelmingly Democratic in November elections.
The city’s Democratic county committee members, listed by district, are as follows: Jeffrey Seeds and Jacalyn Sharpe in the first district; Frank Syphax and Juanita B. Johnson in the second; Duanne Small and Angeline Brown in the third; Joe Grillo and his wife, Seresa Grillo, in the fourth; Angela & Calvin Anderson in the fifth; William Potter and Penelope Gnesin in the sixth; J. Dwight Taylor and Councilwoman Amy Quinn in the seventh; Councilman John M. Loffredo and Harrison in the eighth; and Gary Maffei and Jessie Ricks were appointed in the ninth.
