Asbury Park High School Graduate Joins Police Force

Islam Joshua, 24, begins academy training Wednesday

Another City native has joined the Asbury Park Police force.

Islam Joshua, 24, sworn into duty Friday during a ceremony attended by friends, family, his new colleagues, and City officials.

Asbury Park Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Michael Casey said Joshua was selected from the civil service city list.

Municipal Clerk Cindy Dye administered the oath of office.

Joshua, a 2012 Asbury Park High School graduate, will academy training Wednesday, Casey said. He is expected to graduate in mid-May, at which time he will be assigned to a three-month field training at a starting annual salary of $35,549.
