Chapman: their success on and off the field is extraordinary & noteworthy
The Asbury Park City Council Wednesday honored the high school’s 2016 Varsity Soccer Team for clinching the Division One Championship, for the first time since 1981 and winning the Central Jersey Group 1 title.
In reading the municipal recognition, Councilwoman Eileen Chapman commended the team for their formula of success, on and off the field, calling it extraordinary and noteworthy.
“The Mayor and City Council congratulate the Blue Bishop soccer team on their exceptionally successful winning season in 2016,” Chapman said.
The team’s head coach Jean Dortissant thanked the City Council for their behind the scenes support.
“There are so many things you guys have done behind the doors that don’t go in the paper but we want to thank you for everything you have done for these amazing, amazing young men,” Dortissant said.
Asbury Park Board of Education President Angela Ahbez-Anderson, expressed the school district’s governing body’s sentiments.
“We are very proud of you because of not only what you have been doing on the field but academically as well,” Ahbez-Anderson said.
The city’s public access station – Asbury Park Television [APTV] is running features on the team and its players, Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn said.
