Asbury Park Housing Authority Awarded $247K HUD Grant
Funds to be used for crime, safety and security needs in public housing
Asbury Park Housing Authority was among the 25 public housing agencies to receive a portion of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development $5 million grants issued in 15 states. The awards are earmarked to address emergency, safety and security needs and to fight crime at public housing properties.
“Everyone should feel safe in their home,” HUD Secretary Ben Carson said in a written statement. “This funding will allow public housing authorities to put in place additional safety measures that provide greater security and protection for residents.”
Federal officials said the Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program will help local agencies to also address sudden increases in violent or property-related crimes within their public housing community.
The funds can be used to install, repair, or replace capital needs items like security systems and/or surveillance cameras, fencing, lighting, emergency alarm, window bars, deadbolt locks and doors.
In Asbury the $247,934 award will be used to improve security through the purchase of a security camera system and lighting at Asbury Park Village, Lincoln Village, Comstock, Charles Lumley, and Robinson Towers.
Camden, Atlantic City, and Penns Grove Housing Authorities also received safety grants.
