Asbury Park man charged with child pornography distribution
Charges equate to 35 year prison sentence if convicted
An Asbury Park man was arrested Tuesday on child pornography charges after Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detectives launched an investigation into a series of CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in news release.
Johan J. Murrieta, 20, of the 300 block of Eighth Avenue is charged with three counts of second degree endangering the welfare of a child [for the electronic distribution of child pornography] and one count of third degree endangering the welfare of a child [for possession of child pornography].
He is being held at Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $350,000 cash only bail, meaning no 10 percent bond payment, set by Superior Court Judge Honora O’Brien Kilgallen. As an additional condition of bail, Murrieta was ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 and barred from use of the internet.
If convicted, Murrieta faces 35 years in a New Jersey state prison, and is subject to the provisions of “Megan’s Law.”
The arrest came after detectives executed a search warrant and found numerous child pornography charges, the news release states.
The investigation was conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children [ICAC] Task Force, who received three CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children [NCMEC].
The CyberTips revealed that on three separate days, images of child pornography were distributed using three different email accounts, all of which were accessed by an individual using an IP address associated with Murrieta’s home.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County assistant Prosecutor Margaret Koping. Murrieta is represented by Christopher Campbell, Esq., of Freehold.
