Asbury Park, Neptune City drug sweeps see 16 arrested
$5000 in cash and over 2600 bags of heroin seized
Three Asbury Park residences and one Neptune City residence were searched during three separate narcotics sweeps conducted in March by the county’s narcotics task force and local police, according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sixteen individuals were arrested and police said $5000 in cash and over 2600 bags of heroin were seized.
On March 7, 2014, the Monmouth County Narcotics Strike Force and members of the Neptune City and Tinton Falls police departments executed a search warrant in the Brighton Arms apartment complex in Neptune City, where 48 bricks of heroin [2400 bags] were seized, the release stated.
Approximately $5,000 in cash and a 2010 Acura, all believed to be the proceeds of drug sales, were also allegedly found at the location. A ten-year-old found in the apartment was taken into police custody during the raid.
Two people were charged in the March 7 raid. Carl Edward Laine, 33, Neptune City, was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released after posting $100,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent. Geneeja Walker, 29, Neptune City, was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, and endangering the welfare of a child. She was released after posting $25,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent.
On March 12, 2014, the Monmouth County Narcotics Strike Force, along with the Street Crimes Unit of the Asbury Park Police Department, Ocean Township Police Department, and a K-9 Unit from the Wall Township Police Department, searched a house in the 1300 block of Bangs Avenue where four bricks of heroin [200 bags] and less then one-half ounce of cocaine was seized, the release said.
Three people were attested during the second raid.
Fred D. Anderson III, 22, Asbury Park, was charged in Asbury Park with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of the Bangs Avenue School, possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of the Washington Village Public Housing Complex, and possession of cocaine. Anderson is also charged in Ocean Township with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, and conspiracy to distribute heroin. Anderson is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $200,000 bail.
Shannon Ross, 23, Asbury Park, was charged with possession of Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, and Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin. Ross is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $50,000 bail.
John P. Cahill, 26, Ocean Township, is charged with Conspiracy to Possess Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was released on a summons pending a future court date.
On March 21, 2014, the Monmouth County Narcotics Strike Force, with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit of the Asbury Park Police Department, and a K-9 Unit from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office executed two search warrants at two separate Prospect Avenue addresses, both located in the 500 block. Heroin was seized at both locations, including 40 bags at the second location.
During the two raids, Richard Plummer, 53, Asbury Park, was arrested on a charge of possession of heroin. He was later released on a summons pending a future court date. Glen “Link” Miller, 58, Asbury Park, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession with intent to distribute heroin. He was released after posting the full $25,000 bail.
“When it comes to drug interdiction in Monmouth County heroin is our number one priority. Heroin is killing our young people in record numbers and it is the cause of a lot of crime here and across the country,” Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said in the release.
Grammiccioni also said the public should not be fooled into thinking the county can arrest its way out of this problem.
“The scourge of heroin will only be eradicated through education and with vigilance at home,” he said.
Grammiccioni has made several appearances at several schools in Monmouth County to give presentations called “Heroin Kills! Are You Talking To Your Kids Yet?” to students and parents.
The presentations, coupled with the law enforcement efforts, will allow authorities to make headway, but, Grammiccioni said, “the nature of heroin addiction means this problem can only be solved with everyone pulling in the same direction.”
Other individuals arrested and released on a summons pending a future court date are Jacoby Richbow, 35, Asbury Park; Paul Williams, 60, Asbury Park; Tommy L. Elmore, 57, Asbury Park; Saul Evans Jr., 34, Neptune Township; Bryant Hurston, 45, Trenton; Erica Davis, 32, of Asbury Park’; Noble R. Bey, 43, Asbury Park; Denise Watson, 43, Asbury Park; Alonzo S.
