Asbury Park officials discuss city-wide internet access
Hot-spot would be made available at no cost to users
City Engineer Joe Cunha is scheduled to meet with members of Cablevision next week to discuss Wi-Fi near the waterfront, and City Manager Terence Reidy has asked Cunha to “expand that conversation to include the entire city,” Reidy said.
The city engineer’s office and the police department are currently pricing out a cloud, which would beam city surveillance cameras and parking meter information back to a central point. The plan includes the potential to achieve city-wide internet access, according to Cunha.
“It would provide access to the internet throughout the city for everyone at no cost,” said Councilwoman Amy Quinn. “It may cost the city money — which is something we will evaluate — but I’m interested in providing internet access throughout the city.”
