Asbury Park Police Arrest Three Following Death Threat Investigation Against Officer
Charges include firearm, cocaine, prescription pills, stolen item possession & child endangerment
A joint investigation into a threat against a local police officer’s life led to the arrest of three men Friday, Asbury Park Police Department spokesman Sgt. Michael Casey said.
Salik Hinton, 28, of Neptune was charged with possession of a defaced firearm, being a certain person prohibited from being in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of controlled dangerous substances – cocaine and prescription pills, and for an active local arrest warrant.
Also charged was Asbury Park resident Willie Clark, 32, for possession of a defaced firearm, being a certain person prohibited from being in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of controlled dangerous substances – cocaine and prescription pills.
Shakira Smith, 31, also of Asbury Park, was charged with possession of a defaced firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of controlled dangerous substances – cocaine and prescription pills, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, the Neptune Township Street Crimes Unit, and Monmouth County Emergency Response Team were called in to assist the department’s high risk search following alleged threats by Hinton, a known Blood gang member, Casey said.
The warrant was executed near 4:30 a.m. at a home on the 600 block of Church Street, Casey said. A second search, conducted at Hinton’s parents’ residence in Neptune, recovered the paraphernalia indicative of drug distribution and a total of $2,435.00 cash; proceeds from drug transactions. Also seized was a Cannondale bike valued over $800, which one of the defendants admitted to buying for $5 on the street from a ‘drug addict.’
Hinton and Clark were remanded to Monmouth County Jail, pending a first court appearance, and Smith was released on a summons, pending a future court appearance.
Casey said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation can reach Asbury Park Police detectives at (732) 502-4533.
