Asbury Park Polling Location Change For Districts 1 and 9
Monmouth County Board of Elections: change based on equipment needs
Voters residing in the city’s Districts 1 and 9 will report to a new polling location for the upcoming June 7 Primary, according to a written news statement by city officials.
The Monmouth County Board of Elections has changed the voting location to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Annex, located at 1143 Asbury Ave.
From the news release:
Board of Elections Administrator Robin Major said that the change was made after an on-site inspection. The previous location, in Lumley Homes at 1025 Second Ave, did not have enough space for all the voting equipment required.
“We need to have tables set up for our workers, for challengers as well, and two voting machines for each district,” Major said. “Lack of space was the concern, based on observation by myself as well as one of our Board of Election Commissioners.
Major said that the new location has all the necessary space for equipment and staff, and is a reasonable distance for voters within Districts 1 and 9 to travel.
“We were on-site during the recent Board of Education elections, and given the anticipated high voter turnout for this Presidential election year and next year’s gubernatorial race, we needed a location with more space,” Major said.
Districts 1 and 9 is comprised of the areas west of Memorial Drive to Central Avenue and north of Sewall Avenue to Deal Lake, according to the news release. The full map on the municipality’s web site does not yet reflect he location changes.
Qualified June 7 Primary voters must be registered to vote by Tuesday. To find out whether you are registered to vote or to register, visit elections.nj.gov.
