Asbury Park Railroad Crossing Repair underway
Detours and closures in place through Wednesday
The Monroe Avenue Railroad closure, in place through 8 p.m. Wednesday, comes with certain area road closures and detours, officials from the New Jersey Department of Transportation [NJDOT] said Thursday.
The closure is part of the NJDOT railroad crossing rehabilitation project aimed at conducting necessary safety work, officials said. The existing railroad crossing is being removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach.
Aside from two-way traffic on Monroe Avenue being closed at the railroad crossing, the following detours will remain in place:
Monroe Avenue Eastbound
Traffic will be directed to turn left onto Memorial Drive, then right onto Asbury Avenue, right onto Main Street, and left onto Monroe Avenue.
Monroe Avenue Westbound
Traffic will be directed to turn right onto Main Street, then turn left onto Asbury Avenue, left onto Memorial Drive, and right onto Monroe.
The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.
The replacement is part of a federally-funded project within the NJDOT railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings statewide each year.
