Asbury Park Superfest: Masters Of Funk
Event ongoing in Sunset Park until 9 p.m. features Mary Jane Girls, Dazz Band, & the Lakeside
Party people who don’t care about the weather are gathering at Sunset Park for the inaugural Asbury Park Superfest: Masters of Funk, ongoing until 9 p.m.
The lineup features an all-star gathering of soul, funk, and R&B icons hailing back to the 60s, including The Mary Jane Girls and Dazz Band. Also on the bill are the legendary Bar Kays, Slave, and the Lakeside. Starting things off are Joe Keys and the Late Bloomer Band.
Set up and ready to go are an array of vendors offering everything from handcrafted jewelry to summer wares.
On the grill, Howell-based Smokin Q’s Mike Bradly was putting the final touches on the honey cured ribs, their signature specialty that has no sauce just a secret dry rub.
There’s also Caribbean fare, empanadas, ice cream and ices, fresh squeezed lemonade and funnel cakes on the menu from a variety of food vendors.
Held in collaboration with the City, the Superfest Masters of Funk is a being held in support of K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, event organizer 3141-7Dayz Enterprises said in a written statement. The festival’s contributions to the Children’s Hospital will support its mission to meet all children’s needs whether physical, emotional, or mental.
Sunset Park is located along Main Street b/w Fifth and Sixth avenues. Tickets at the gate are $35.
