Asbury Park teen arrested for burglary in West Allenhurst
Second teen believed to be involved still on the loose
A sixteen year old Asbury Park resident has been arrested and charged with robbery in Allenhurst.
Ocean Township Police received a call Monday shortly before 6 p.m. from a West Allenhurst resident who reported they heard glass shatter nearby, according to a news release from the Township of Ocean Police Department.
When police arrived on the scene, another witness stated they had seen two teenage males in the same area riding their bicycles prior to the glass shattering, the release said. A separate witness told police they saw two youths running away from a house toward Deal Lake.
When police canvassed the area, they found a home on South Edgemere Drive with a broken window, according to the release. The house also showed signs of an attempted break-in.
Police found one teen hiding in a wooded area close to Deal Lake and took him into protective custody, the release stated. Upon further investigation, it was determined two youths were responsible for the break-in.
The sixteen year old has been released to a family member. His case will be heard in Monmouth County Family Court.
The second teen fled the scene before police arrived and remains at large, the release stated.
