Asbury seeks bids for surfing lessons, paddle board rentals
Contracts would be for five years
Surfing lessons on the beach and paddle board rentals on Deal Lake [above] may soon be coming to Asbury Park.
The city is preparing requests for proposal [RFPs] for vendors to submit bids for the surfing lessons and the paddle board rentals.
The RFPs contain requirements for insurance and rental fees to operate on city property, said commerce and economic development director Tom Gilmour. The location of the surfing lessons is still to be determined and the paddle boards will be rented and launched from the Seventh Avenue boat ramp on the Deal Lake, Gilmour said.
Two private merchants have approached the city with an interest in providing those services, Gilmour told the City Council last week.
Since the activities involve the use of city property for profit, the RFPs must be advertised and the contracts will be awarded to the highest bidders, City Attorney Frederick Raffetto said yesterday.
After the RFPs have been advertised in a legal newspaper for 20 days, bids can be opened. The bids will reviewed by Gilmour who will make a recommendations to the Council on who should be awarded the five-years contracts.
