Asbury seeks engineering proposal for downtown parking garage
Parking Utility Revenue would fund an estimated $12 to $18 Million, 400-600 space structure
City officials have taken the first steps toward the building of a 400-600 space parking garage at the Asbury Park municipal complex.
On Monday, City Manager Michael Capabianco announced they will solicit proposals from engineers to design the structure. As part of that work, an initial phase will be a geodesic study to make sure the land can accommodate such a structure, Capabianco said.
If the geodesic study is acceptable, an engineering firm would design the garage. It would then be put out to bid for construction.
The garage would be located at the site of the current public parking lot at the municipal complex.
Costs are estimated at no higher than $30,000 per space, according to Mayor John Moor. That would place the approximate estimated costs for a 400-600 space garage at $12 to $18 million.
Moor said that the city’s parking revenues should be sufficient to pay back any debt for the garage.
