Atom Worth Clinches New York Emmy Nomination
Worth: I’m only able to earn a living in Asbury Park because of the way this community nurtures & supports the arts.
One of Asbury Park’s most creative Renaissance men Adam ‘DJ Atom’ Worth has been nominated for a New York Emmy.
“It’s for a quiet documentary I did on my own time,” Worth said via a telephone interview.
Known around town for his dance inspiring spins, often coupled with on the beat visuals, Worth announced via social media Thursday that he’s been nominated in the cinematography category for his short form film spotlighting the Lakewood Renaissance Fair.
“I did some interviews and shot some footage but I wanted to edit it in a more artistic way, he said. The result is a pictorial profile with very little dialogue. “ Rather than use the traditional news formula, I wanted to do it as more of a profile of the people who were there.
This is Worth’s third nomination and second nod in the cinematography category. In 2013 he won an Emmy for his spotlight on the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
“I have to thank my parents for buying me my first video camera at the age of 18,” said Worth, whose roots lay in television production, where he honed his editing and directing skills.
This week, Worth also learned that he will be among the nation’s best competing in March at the Winter Music Conference Video DJ Challenge in Miami. His notable homage to the lives lost in 2016 helped clinch his place in the VJ battle, he said. [See below]

“I wanted to create a tribute and video mix using only samples from the work of musicians and actors who we lost in 2016,” he said of the piece.
Worth, who spins every Saturday at The Asbury, the city’s popular hotel and entertainment venue, said the submission captures his two passions – music and video.
A Wanamassa native who has called Asbury Park home for many years, Worth got his start 18 years ago as DJ of a Monmouth University Soul/Funk show. He earned a BA in music business, radio and television communications and minored in film studies at Monmouth University.
“It got me opportunities to spin in bars,” he said of the WMCX radio show. “I was able to branch off when I got a second turntable . I got into mixing more and into the artform of DJ’ing and turntablism.”
Worth has spun at many of the city’s popular venues, including the House of Independents, Convention Hall events, Langosta Lounge, Porta, Annex, the Wonder Bar, Watermark, Johnny Mac’s, etc.
“I like to say I’ve spun in Asbury Park back when there were only three bars in Asbury,” he said.
Today, worth delivers a mix of funk, soul, old-school hip hop, obscure disco, chillwave, and boogie funk across the Jersey Shore and the nation.
His camera production accolades include work with The Food Network, MSNBC, A&E, MTV, the Biography Channel, Nickelodeon, HGTV, The DIY Network, Starz, MLB, and the Weather Channel.
As an editor, Worth created commercials and marketing videos for brands like Buick, Duracell, Old Spice, Energizer, Febreeze, Advil, Bayer, Pfizer, Zyrtec, Kahlua, Glenlivet, Kay Jewelers, Tumi, Metlife, Komen for the Cure, Depends, Kotex, and many more.
“As a freelancer, I owe everything to the production companies that hire me,” Worth said. “I have to extend thanks to them. Speaking of that, I’m only able to earn a living in Asbury Park because of the way this community nurtures and supports the arts. I am blessed to be here, I couldn’t have accomplished any where near what I have without Asbury Park.”
