Backward Glances wins Chamber Pink Contest
Pink Campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness in Asbury Park
The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce turned the city pink this month with the help of a few businesses.
The local Paint the Town Pink campaign is part of a national Breast Cancer Awareness recognition held throughout May to remind women over age 40 to get a mammogram.
Asbury Park joined shore towns from Aberdeen to Cape May in participating in the Meridian Health sponsored initiative.
With the theme of ‘Just Get It Done,’ businesses were asked to participate in a ‘pink-ed’ display window contest. Using creativity and spirit, participants had to incorporate the trademark pink brassiere in the displays.
Cookman Avenue vintage shop Backward Glances [shown in featured photo] won the top prize over Nita Ideas, Oasis Home, At the Table, Purple Glaze and Langosta Lounge.
The Paint the Town Pink campaign is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Events and celebrations, including walk-, bike-, and dance-a-thons, are held across the region throughout the month.
A University of Maryland Medical Center study finds teens who eat high amounts of saturated fats may be at higher risk for breast cancer, according to a Friday Morning Ticker report. The study is based on a Dietary Intervention Study in Children, which began in 1988 and included more than 600 children, ages 8 to 10.
