This week’s Friday Foto comes from Loch Arbour resident Billy Mecca, a graphic artist, journalist, and media editor whose outfit Beachcruiser Media is located inside the M Space on Bangs Avenue.
Mecca’s picture of the swan boats located at Asbury Pedal on Lake Avenue captures a scene reminiscent of Asbury’s historic past.
“I was going for lunch when I heard outside on Bangs Ave. that the pink flamingo boats had arrived, so I detoured and walked around Wesley Lake to snap a few photos for my Instagram,” Mecca said. “Even though it was an overcast day and about to rain, spring was in full bloom. The contrast of the colorful new pedal boats and flowers around with the cloudy skies made for some nice moody shots.”
Mecca is in the process of developing Beachcruiser Media’s first mobile and print Asbury Park handbook. And he’s launching the first Gay Asbury Guide — the GAG — later this summer.
“I’ve been documenting the Asbury Park area and events in photos ever since I moved here 5 or 6 years ago,” Mecca said. “I used to shoot more on a regular digital camera, but lately have been inspired more to shoot and share instantly with my iPhone and publishing on Instagram and Facebook. Some works have been shown (and sold) at several shows at both Heaven Gallery and Bangs Art Gallery in Asbury Park and I’ll be in several shows around town this summer.”
One thing about Mecca is for sure — he loves Asbury Park.
