Asbury Park Middle School students spent a part of their instructional day in the Barack Obama Building after the school received a bomb threat Wednesday.

The threat came in at 12:32, according to Asbury Park Police Capt. Marshawn Love.

An investigation proved the incident to be a hoax called in by one of the Middle School Students who were not in attendance that day, he said.

Principal Antonio Lewis made the determination that students would be allowed back into the Middle School after being informed the threat was false, Love said. He was unsure how long the investigation took.

School administrators will meet with the student and their parent’s Thursday. Any repercussions the student will face will be determined during the meeting, Love said.

The Barack H. Obama Building, formerly the Bangs Avenue school, has not operated as an elementary school since 2011 but the district still holds offices in the building. It is normal protocol for the students to be evacuated to the Barack Obama Building under these circumstances, Love said. The building is located just over a block away on the same street.
