Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Asbury Park Police Department officials are conducting an investigation into bones found at the former Sixth Avenue home of a known serial killer, city officials confirmed.

The remains are not believed to be human, according the Monmouth County Prosecutor Office spokesman Charles Webster.

The remains were discovered by a contractor doing work at the home Richard Biegenwald shared with his wife during the early 1980s. Biegenwald was officially tied to at nine murders between 1958 and 1983 and suspected of having a connection in two others murder cases.

While officials at the site could not comment on the ongoing investigation, it is yet unknown whether the bones are human or animal.

A call to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office was not immediately returned but their office will have jurisdiction over the investigation.
