Booker, Pallone to rally at West Side center tonight
Candidates will not endorse anyone running in the Asbury Park elections
Monmouth County Democrats will host a free Get out the Vote rally at the West Side Community Center, located at 115 DeWitt Ave. tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., to encourage residents to head to the polls next week and cast their vote.
United States Senator Cory Booker, Congressman Frank Pallone, Congressional candidate Ruben Scolavino and Monmouth County Freeholder candidates Larry Luttrell and Joe Grillo will attend. Food and refreshments will be served.
“It’s an honor that, out of any place in the entire County of Monmouth, the Democratic party chose Asbury Park to hold their GOTV rally,” said freeholder Candidate Joe Grillo. “I would encourage everyone from every part of the city to come out and to listen to the Democratic candidates for senate, congress, and Monmouth County freeholder.”
Grillo, an Asbury Park resident, is the chairman of the Asbury Park Democratic Committee.
The city’s municipal and board of educations are non-partisan. No one running in either election will speak and none of the Monmouth County Democrats will endorse any candidates in the Asbury Park elections.
“The Democratic Committee stays neutral in the municipal race, and their position is that they do not endorse any candidates in any of the muncipal or baord of education elections,” Grillo said. “It’s only fair.”
All residents throughout Monmouth County are invited to attend, Grillo said.
Booker is defending his seat on the U.S. Senate against Republican party candidate Jeff Bell, and five individuals who won nomination by petition. They are Joseph Baratelli of the Libertarian Party, Antonio N Sabas of the “We Need More” party, Eugene Martin Lavergne of the D-R Party, Jeff Boss of the “NSA Whistleblower” party, and Hank Schroeder of the “Economic Growth” party.
Pallone is also defending his seat. Those contesting it are the Republican party’s Anthony Wilkinson and Dorit Goikhman, who won the Libertarian Party’s nomination by petition.
Luttrell and Grillo seek to unseat Republican freeholders Lillian Burry and Gary Rich.
