Boys & Girls Club Annual Fundraiser at Stone Pony
Asbury Park building refurbishment and expansion on project list
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County 5th annual fundraiser will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Stone Pony, located at 913 Ocean Avenue.
Entitled “A Most Unusual Evening,” the event features live music coupled with an illusionist acts, dancing, auctions and raffles, as well as food and drinks.Attendees are encouraged to join in the night of mystery theme by wearing all black.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County serves over 1,600 children annually via its Asbury Park and Red Bank facilities.
“We provide safe places for young people in Monmouth County, especially those who need us most, where they can receive programs and services that will help them realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens,” Executive Director Douglas Eagles [shown at right] said in a written news statement.
Aside from its recreational programs, the nonprofit administers a college bound mentor and scholarship program, gang and truancy prevention, character and leadership programs, and its SMART Moves substance abuse and pregnancy prevention program.
Last month, the organization kicked off a refurbishment and expansion project at its Asbury Park location on Monroe Avenue.
Waterfront redeveloper iStar helped rally an estimated $100,000 in pro bono work to help develop a three-story building across the street [shown at right], refurbishment of the main site, and a recently completed pool redesign.
Famed architect Gary Handel, who brings his expertise to Asbury Park with the 1101 Ocean Avenue design – a 16-story rebuild at the former Esperanza site, will redesign the over 70-year-old main building and the new structure.
Tickets to the fundraising event are $150 per person available at the door or via the Boys and Girls of Monmouth County website.
