BREAKING: An off-duty Neptune detective allegedly shot his estranged wife this morning in Asbury Park in the area near Sewell and Ridge avenues, according to a report on nj.com.

The officer, identified by sources in the report as Sgt. Phil Seidle, was taken into custody, nj.com stated.

From the nj.com report:

Residents, who reported hearing multiple shots fired, said a man with a gun was sitting on the side of the road as police tried to talk to him. Residents said it appeared he surrendered shortly before 12:30 p.m.

They said a man, driving north on Ridge Avenue, appeared to be chasing another vehicle on that road. When the cars turned onto Sewall Avenue, the man, in a silver vehicle, crashed into the driver’s side of the other vehicle, the residents said. The man got out of his car and opened fire on the vehicle, residents said. A child got out of the car and ran as the man continued to fire into the vehicle, they said.

After the ambulance took the patient away, the man was seen walking along Sewell Avenue occasionally putting the gun to his head and then dropping his hand to his side before he surrendered, they said.
