Building Clean Out Sale To Support Asbury Park Toy Drive
Sackman purchase of iconic building sparks weekend fundraiser
The sale of the landmark former Seacoast Trust bank building at the corner of Press Plaza and Cookman Avenue has sparked a fundraising drive for one of the city’s long-standing charities.
Current owner Barry Slott has donated the building contents, which will be sold this weekend in support of The Asbury Park Toy Drive. Downtown Asbury developer Carter Sackman has a contract to buy the building, and a closing of title is scheduled after the first of the year when ownership will officially transfer.
Headed by Connie Breech, the The Asbury Park Toy Drive works year round to collect gifts, toys and necessities for Asbury Park’s youth. The nonprofit has been making a difference for 17 years, serving over 500 families last Christmas alone.
A Building Clean Out Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, according to event organizers.
Sale items include art, furniture, housewares, lighting fixtures, bikes, tools, home improvement items, clothing, pool table, doors and more. Items are priced to sell, and organizers say there will be no early bird transactions.
A crew of volunteers are donating their time to help organize the sale, Mazza Construction has donated a dumpster for the event, and building purchaser Sackman is helping to facilitate the community drive, organizers said.
Following the sale, the space will be used as “Toy Central” to gather and distribute holiday gifts for Asbury Park kids
