Cache of weapons found in Sunset Avenue home
Owner faces multiple weapons possession charges
Ocean Township police seized 47 firearms from a Sunset Avenue home after a tenant of the location allegedly accosted an individual hired by the property owner to work there, authorities said Monday.
On Friday, August 15 at 6:50 p.m., police responded to a Sunset Avenue property just east of Rt. 35 after they received a call alerting them of a man with a gun at the location, according to a news release from township police.
During their investigation police learned the property has both a residential and commercial component, and a man was hired by the property owner to conduct work on the commercial side of the building, Det. Lt. Kevin Faller told the Sun.
George Riley, 58, a tenant of the property who may not have been notified of the man contracted to conduct work on the commercial side of the property, wielded a handgun while he told the man to immediately leave the property, Faller said.
The victim contacted the property owner, who contacted police, the release stated.
In addition to the firearms, police seized an unlicensed assault rifle, a bayonet, a stun gun, a silencer, 38 high capacity magazines and multiple rounds of hollow point bullets, the release stated.
Riley was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of an assault firearm without a license, possession of a firearm silencer, possession of hollow nose bullets, possession of pepper spray, reckless endangerment, possession of high capacity ammunition magazines and possession of a stun gun.
His was released after posting ten percent of a $50,000 bail to await a future court hearing.
