Camp fosters appreciation for art and science
Second Baptist hosts Inspire Life weeklong Fine Art and Tech day camp
At the Inspire Life Fine Art and Tech camp an appreciation for art and science is being fostered in children ages 5 to 17.
Held as part of the Second Baptist Church offerings, the weeklong day camp kicked off Monday with 36 children trying their hand in everything from computer wiring to vocal training.
Organizer Carla van Zandt said the ‘Makey Makey’ tech program not only gives budding inventors and scientist a chance at first hand knowledge of how everyday items work but also allows them to incorporate the practices in their everyday lives.
“We use computer wires attached to mini switchboards to create reaction learning,” van Zandt said.
Also on the list is a tutorial on the background of Nintendo video game, form its creation and the technology behind its operation, she said.
Musical production includes the how tos of making rhythms and beats and how to use computer and media applications to create their own sounds. Some will learn to play an instrument, while others will record and edit. A trained vocal coach and several musicians will help oversee the campers.
Dance includes learning the theories behind everything from classical to hip hop, and visual artists will guide students in creating their own works.
The writing component allows campers to use their imagination in order to rewrite history by creating their own renditions of things happened.
The camp runs through week’s end, van Zandt said.
