Candidates file first detailed campaign finance reports
Two Asbury tickets still haven't submitted their reports
Two tickets in the Asbury Park City Council race have filed their campaign finance reports detailing contributions received and expenditures made through April 12.
The reports were due April 15. The One Asbury ticket filed by the deadline, according to the website of the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission [ELEC]. The A-Team ticket filed their report on April 17, according to the website.
The incumbent-led Forward Asbury ticket has not yet filed that report, an ELEC official confirmed today. Candidates on the ticket are incumbents John Loffredo, Susan Henderson and Kevin Sanders, and newcomers Gregory Hopson Sr. and Will Potter. Campaign manager Jocelyn Toledo said a necessary amendment to paperwork held up the process, and the reports should be filed soon.
Although they have not filed their report of contributions and expenditures, four of the Forward Asbury Park candidates filed an initial form designating a treasurer, but Potter, who joined the campaign late, is not included and is not listed as having filed any forms.
The AP Out Front ticket has not filed any forms or reports yet, the ELEC official confirmed. Candidates on the AP Out Front ticket are Shonna Famularo, Clevette Hill, Rosetta Johnson, Dorvil Gilles and Stephen Williams. Their campaign is currently working on filing the required reports, campaign manager Stephania Warren said today.
Independent candidate Randy Thompson filed a form stating he would not raise or spend more than $4,500, which eliminates the requirement to file the report due April 15. Independent candidate Harold Suggs is not listed as filing any reports, including the initial form required after contributions are received or expenditures made.
Candidates on the One Asbury ticket are Amy Quinn, Myra Campbell, Joseph Woerner, Talesha Crank and John Moor. Their joint candidate committee reports total receipts of $11,507, which includes in-kind contributions and loans. Expenditures of $4843.70 were reported. The committee ended the reporting period with $6663.30 in its bank account.
Campaigns are required to disclose the sources of contributions totaling over $300 during a campaign. Those contributing more than $300 to One Asbury were Daniel Weiss of Asbury Park with a contribution of $1,000; H. Robb Levinksy of Asbury Park with a contribution of $1,000; candidate John Moor with a contribution of $500; Joanne Strollo of Monmouth Beach with a contribution of $500; James Woerner of Sea Girt with a contribution of $500; and Amy Woerner of Neptune with a contribution of $500.
One Asbury candidates Amy Quinn and Myra Campbell each loaned the campaign $1,000. A payment of $1,000 was made to Meredith DeMarco, of Bradley Beach, for a consulting fee. The One Asbury candidates did not report opening their own individual campaign accounts.
Candidates on the A-Team ticket are Remond Palmer, James Keady, Duanne Small, Nora Hyland and Daniel Harris III. Each of those candidates opened individual accounts, but filed a statement saying that they would not raise or spend more than $4,500 with those accounts. That eliminated the need for them to file the more detailed report due April 15. If they receive over $300 from any source in those individual accounts, the contributor must be reported.
Of the five, only Harris reported receiving in excess of $300. He reported receiving $600 from Malak El of Asbury Park and $500 from Donald Hammary of Asbury Park.
In addition, the A-Team has a joint candidate committee which filed a report for activity through April 12. That report lists total receipts of $3,350, which includes in-kind contributions. No loans were made to the account. Total expenditures are reported at $1,627.77. The closing bank balance for the joint committee is listed as $1,577.33.
Contributions over $300 to the A-Team joint account came from Grace Shickler of Roswell, Ga., for $500; and Local Union #400 IBEW of Wall Township for $1,000.
In the expenditure portion of the A-Team report, checks of $100 are reported as made out on April 11 to 10 Asbury Park residents for GOTV, or get out the vote, activities. The recipients are Shattina Riller, Tyson Burrus, Tracie Royster, Larry Wilson, Tanay Wilson, Stephon Watt, Linda Fitzpatrick, Latrosa M. Suit, Derrick Spears and Ernest Jones.
The next reports detailing receipts and expenditures are due on May 3 and will cover the period from April 13 through April 30.
The election is May 14. All five seats on the council are up for four-year terms and 22 candidates are vying for the positions.
