Carroll Family named St. Patrick’s Day Grand Marshals
Parade fundraising includes trip to Ireland raffles
Plans for the Third Annual Asbury Park Saint Patrick’s Day Parade are underway and a with an expected vote on the March 13 date, parade route and details on Wednesday night’s City Council agenda, fundraising initiatives are in full swing.
This year’s Grand Marshal will be the Carroll family, President Garret Giberson said.
“They’ve been here a long time and have contributed to the city,” Giberson said. “They are all about the Asbury Park.”
The family’s local weekly paper, The Coaster, launched in 1983 from the Sunset Avenue home of Robert and Doris Carroll, according to the Tom Chesek’s “Legendary Local of Asbury Park.”
Past Grand Marshals have been Father Bob Kaeding, founder of The Center, and last year’s Big Joe Henry from NJ101.5 radio station.
Giberson said they have received additional participation requests for this year’s event.
Last year the parade more than doubled in size, attracting up to 8,000 people along its boardwalk to the downtown route.
The annual Grand Marshal Dinner will be held 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 25 at Jimmy’s Italian Restaurant, located at 1405 Asbury Avenue. The $60 tickets are limited, Giberson said.
Fundraising initiatives also will include $20 raffles for a trips to Ireland. The giveaway includes three separate trips for two people.
Giberson said tickets will be sold at Johnny Mac House of Spirits on Main Street, Kim Marie’s Eat and Drink Away on Kingsley, as well as at a table during the Jan. 30 and 31 Asbury Park Beer Fest at Convention Hall.
Fundraising events include:
9 a.m. to noon Jan. 17 LUCKY LEPRECHAUN BREAKFAST at Kim Marie’s, located at 1409-1411 Kingsley Street. Tickets are $10 per person.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 21 GREEN DRAGON BRUNCH at Taka, located at 660-662 Cookman Ave. Tickets are $15 per person.
7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 25 Grand Marshal Dinner at Jimmy’s Italian Restaurant, 1405 Asbury Ave. Tickets are $60 per person.
If the City Council approves the special event request, the Asbury Park St. Patrick’s Day Parade will kick off at 1 p.m. March 13 from Fifth and Ocean avenues along the waterfront.
