Chairs of Inclusion opens downtown Sunday
reception from 2-4 p.m. at Parlor Gallery
Chairs of Inclusion, a community-wide art installation, opens Sunday along Cookman and Bangs avenues in Asbury Park’s downtown.
The social art project celebrates the Jewish Service for Developmentally Disabled’s Wae Center’s 10th anniversary, according to a news release.
Eleven artists were commissioned to work with the Wae Center’s adults with developmental disabilities artists in creating the life-size pieces.
The chairs representation their vision that everyone deserves a seat at the table. The project is meant to shift perceptions of ability, art and community by making a statement about the importance of ‘inclusion.’
An opening reception, featuring the lead artists, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Parlor Gallery, 717 Cookman Avenue.
The lead artists are Susanna Baker, Dan Fenelon, Tim Folzenlogen, Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern, Ellen Hanauer, Jennifer Levine, Yvette Lucas, Mansa Mussa, Stephen Schwartz, Gladys Barker Grauer, and Onnie Strother.
The exhibit runs through November 29, when a closing reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Asbury Park Train Station.
