Chapman Named President’s Choice Carousel Award Winner
Asbury Park Chamber President Jennifer Schulman: She’s a Natural Fit
Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce President Jennifer Schulman announced Tuesday that Councilwoman Eileen Chapman will receive the 2018 President’s Choice Award during the May 11 Carousel Awards.
The decades-old event acknowledges those in the community who have gone above and beyond in support of commerce, community and humanity, Executive Director Sylvia Sylvia-Cioffi said.
“Having the honor of choosing the recipient of The President’s Choice Award is a labor of love that I take to heart,” Schulman said. “Eileen is actually the person who brought me into the organization. Over the years, we’ve all admired her unwavering commitment to our beautiful city by the sea. She is a natural fit.”
Chapman, who once owned her own record store and served as the Stone Pony’s general manager, is the Director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for Arts at Monmouth University. She serves on the boards of The AP Music Foundation, the AP Historical Society, Asbury Angels, the AP Recreation Committee, Quality of Life Commission, on the commissions of Wesley and Sunset lakes, and on the advisory board of the Grammy Museum Experience.
“When Jen shared her choice with me, I was elated,” Chamber Executive Director, Sylvia Sylvia-Cioffi said. “Eileen is one of the most dynamic and genuinely altruistic people I know. I can’t remember a single time that she hasn’t asked how she can help, even before she has a chance to say hello.”
This year’s theme of ‘Asbury Forever,’ pays homage to many well-known symbols of Asbury Park, the city that lives, loves and endures, Sylvia-Cioffi has said.
They include Asbury Park Festhalle & Biergarten owner Jennifer Lampert, who will be receiving the Asbury Park Visionary Award; The Asbury as recipients of the Kenneth T. Roth Landmark Business Award; St. Patrick’s Day Parade Founder Garrett Giberson Jr gets the Joan Flatley Spirit of Asbury Park Award; Asbury Park educator and College and Career Readiness Coordinator Genise Hughes gets the Asbury Park Humanitarian Award; Freeholder Tom Arnone will receive the Asbury Park Public Official Award; and Mayor John Moor will be honored with the APCC Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce Carousel Awards will be held May 11 at Convention Hall on the AP Boardwalk.
“Having the gala for the first time ever at Convention Hall, coupled with this line up of amazing honorees, is generating an overwhelming amount of excitement already,” Schulman said. “It’s going to be a night to remember. Like our tagline says, we just #LoveAsbury.”
