Charity Kings Seek Back To School Donations
School Supplies, Clothing, Backpacks, Gift Cards & Monetary Donations Accepted
The Charity Kings are back at it again.
This time around the Wish Upon A Prom organizers are working on their Third Annual Back To School Giveaway, slated for Aug. 26.
“Our purpose for this event each year to assist families in need in Monmouth County & other NJ areas,” organizer Sherrice Lyles said. “We are in desperate need of donations for our event to be more successful than last year.”
Lyles is asking those in the community [business and residential] to offer what they can in support of the city’s youth and those in need in surrounding communities.
While the nonprofit works primarily in support of Asbury Park’s youth, past needs and community support have allowed them to reach a broader audience that includes Belmar, Long Branch, Neptune and Red Bank.
“Since our inception, the goal of Charity Kings has remained to support our community,” she said in a written statement. “We make it a priority to focus on our youth by offering academic support, enhancing family values by offering organized family-focused events [i.e the annual Family Day and Santa’s Toy Shoppe events], and promoting a positive community environment for them to thrive in.”
Lyles said the Back to School event is held in coordination with the City, local businesses, school districts, and organizations. Last year’s collaborations yielded assistance for 1,500 families throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Most in need this year are: general school supplies, back packs, clothing, school uniforms, shoes, hair supplies, and gift cards.
A letter has been sent to area business and venues seeking financial support and donations in order to fulfill the needs of their ever growing network. Donations will be accepted through August 30.
