Those seeking information about the upcoming charter study commission vote are invited to the West Side Community Center for a public forum about changes of government.
If approved by a majority of voters on Nov. 6, a charter study commission [CSC] would scrutinize the city’s current form of government and possibly recommend changes. At the polls, voters will choose whether or not to implement a CSC. Then, they will vote for the five members they’d like to see serve on the commission. If the CSC recommends changes, the electorate will be asked to vote on them.
The forum will be held at the center, located at 1115 Dewitt Ave., on Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
Dr. Ernest Roeck of the Center for Government Services [CGS] at Rutgers University will speak. Reock has served as a researcher, professor and director of the CGS over the past 60 years, according to a prepared release about the event. Reock has also received the New Jersey League of Municipalities Distinguished Service Award.
The forum is being coordinated as a service to the community so that Asbury Park voters can have an informed position when they cast their votes on the CSC public question, according to the release.
The five residents who have declared candidacy for the CSC are Pamela Lamberton, Michelle Maguire, Rita Marano, Duanne “King” Small and Randy Thompson. Write-ins will be accepted as well.
The public forum is being organized by a committee of Asbury Park area residents including Thompson, Small, Joe Woerner, Amy Quinn, Greg Demaris, Joe Grillo, Jean Blum, Michele Rachelson, Mary Quinn, Joyce Grant, Talesha Crank and the Rev. John D. Bradley Sr.
