Christmas Gospel Concert supports Seidle children
Fellowship organized by APCAN, St Stephens, & Mother of Mercy Parish
A Christmas Gospel Concert to honor the life of Tamara Wilson Seidle brings with it a message of peace and support for her nine children.
“This will be the children’s first Christmas without their mother,” Ret. Asbury Park Police Lt. George Corbin of Asbury Park Community Action Network [APCAN] said. “We wanted to do something to show support for the children.”
Seidle died June 16 following a car chase, crash, and shooting allegedly by her ex-husband Phil, a Neptune Township police sergeant. The couple’s youngest daughter sat in her father’s car during the incident.
“The fabric of our community was torn to shreds in a senseless act of violence,” Corbin said in a written statement. “However, we want to celebrate with the community an evening of peace on Earth and goodwill toward mankind. [We] refuse to let Tamara’s children fall between the cracks of people’s faded memories.”
The event, cosponsored by Mother of Mercy Parish and St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, begins 4 p.m. Saturday at St Stephen’s, located at 1001 Springwood Avenue.
The fellowship celebration includes performances by area church choirs, praise dancers and a Mime Ministry, Corbin said.
“We decided to respond to the act of violence with music and fellowship,” Corbin said. “This will be an evening to shower the Wilson-Seidle family with love and support as they celebrate this holiday season.”
All proceeds from the free will offering will directly benefit Seidle’s children, Corbin said. Donations may be made to Mother of Mercy Parish c/o Tamara Seidle Trust Fund. For more information, contact event organizer Sis. Alice Johnson of St. Stephen’s A.M.E. Zion Church at candycoat776@live.com.
