City creates advisory recreation committee
Applications from business owners and residents now being accepting
The Asbury Park City Council created a recreation committee at last week’s council meeting, and applications are currently being accepted to fill four open positions.
City council members voted 5-0 to create the nine member committee, comprised of two council members, one representative from the board of education, one representative from the housing authority, two representatives from the local business community, two representatives from the community at large and the director of the city’s recreation department, according to a resolution passed at the meeting.
Applications are being solicited to fill the four open spots slated for local business owners and members of the community, City Clerk Stephen Kay confirmed with the Sun.
The committee will provide “advice and recommendations with regard to recreational activities and programs within the city,” the resolution states.
Once it is formed, the committee will appoint its own chairperson, establish a regular meeting schedule, and periodically report to the mayor and council about the “status of recreational activities and programs within the city, and to make recommendations as the committee sees fit,” the resolution states.
Any member of the community or local business owner interested in filling out an application can access it here. There is no deadline for submission as of yet, Kay said.
Applications may be returned to the City Clerk’s office Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., or mailed to the City Clerk at City Clerk’s Office, One Municipal Plaza, Asbury Park, NJ 07712.
