City Departments & Hotel Tides Launch Donation Drives
Warm Weather Clothing & Nonperishable Food Accepted Through Jan 11 at City Hall; Nonperishable Foods Accepted Jan 9 to 23 at Hotel Tides
Two local drives are kicking off the new year in Asbury Park.
First up is the return of the Community Development and Recreation departments’ Winter Coat and Food Drive.
Held in conjunction with the Quality of Life Committee, the public can donate new and gently worn winter wear for men women and children, as well as nonperishable foods through Jan 11. The drop off location is the second floor of City Hall, located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
The most needed clothing items include coats, caps, gloves, mittens, scarves, sweaters, socks and sweatshirts. Nonperishable food items most needed include canned meats, fish, nuts, soups, fruits and vegetables, as well as peanut butter, macaroni and cheese mixes, spaghetti noodles, dried peas, beans, bread mixes, dry cereal, rice, Hamburger Helper, Pasta Roni, powdered milk, and evaporated milk.

On Jan 9, Hotel Tides will begin their annual food drive in support of Fulfill [formerly the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties].
“Last year we were able to donate 130lbs. of food from our drive,” Hotel Tides General Manager Ryan Jimenez said in a written statement. “The Tides has a lasting tradition of being a part of such an amazing community and are so honored to give back in any way we can. We hope you will help us to continue that tradition.”
In 2016, Fulfill provided over 12 million meals for over 300 pantries and soup kitchens, Jimenez said.
Most needed are canned tuna, chicken or salmon [in water]; canned vegetables; brown, wild or white rice; peanut butter and jelly; pasta; canned beans, lentils or peas; and unsalted nuts.
Items can be dropped off 5 to 11 pm Wednesday through Sunday, Jan 29 to 23 at Hotel Tides, located at 408 Seventh Ave.
