City Hosts Electric Vehicle Ride & Share Event At The Asbury
Manzella: Car Sharing Program Expected to Launch Early 2019
With the electric car sharing program on the horizon, city officials have organized a noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive event at The Asbury (210 Fifth Ave].
“The event is really a ride-and-drive event so that members of the public and residents can test drive an electric vehicle to promote their use and protect our environment,” Transportation Manager Michael Manzella said. “Environment New Jersey and ChargEVC have partnered with the City’s Green Team to hold the event.”
Manzella said representatives from Greenspot, the City’s EV car share partner, will be hon hand to share information about the upcoming program, expected to launch in early 2019.
“The exact rates have yet to be determined, but will likely be somewhere between $10 and $15 per hour,” he said. “The initial locations will be near Convention Hall on Sunset Avenue, in the downtown on Mattison Avenue, and near Springwood Park on Springwood Avenue.”
There will be two car share electric vehicles at each of those locations, with the downtown and waterfront locations equipped with two public charging stations.
Greenspot’s Brett Muney said when fully deployed, Asbury Park will feature 100 spots across the city consisting of the shared vehicle and open to the public charging stations.
