City man, 24, dies after gunfire incident along Summerfield Ave
No arrests made; second man hospitalized; police seek public's help
One man is dead and another is in stable condition following gunfire Sunday afternoon along Summerfield Avenue, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.
City resident Jamal Small, 24, was pronounced deceased at 2:51 p.m. at a nearby hospital, Gramiccioni said.
No one has been arrested in connection with the homicide at this time, he said.
Asbury Park police officers responded to multiple 911 calls at approximately 11:56 a.m. of shots fired in the 1000 block of Summerfield Avenue. When they arrived, police found the two men suffered apparent gunshot wounds.
Both men were transported by the Asbury Park Fire Department to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving measures, Small succumbed to his injuries. The other man, who is not being identified at this time, remains in stable condition at a local hospital.
A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office and the Asbury Park Police Department is active and ongoing, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Charles Webster said.
