City man captured after attack on 34-year-old female

Bail set at $50,000 cash only

A city resident was captured and arrested in relation to an attack of a 34-year-old female Wednesday afternoon.

At close to 1:25 p.m. Asbury Park Police responded to a call at the Asbury Gardens on Atlantic Avenue.

Police determined that city resident Willie Johnson Jr, 44, and a 34-year-old female resident were involved in an altercation.

In the course of the altercation the victim sustained a small non-life threatening laceration from a knife. She was treated at the scene by the Asbury Park Fire Department.

Johnson, who took flight on a bicycle, was later apprehended and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and resisting arrest by flight.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash only bail, meaning no chance of posting a 10 percent bond.

Johnson also was found to have outstanding warrants in other jurisdictions and a child support warrant out of Monmouth County Superior Court.

He was processed and transferred to Monmouth County Jail.
