City Resident Arrested In Connection With Sunday Afternoon Shooting
Lentz, 21, Charged W/ Attempted Murder, Weapons Possession, & Obstruction
An Asbury Park man was arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the Sunday afternoon shooting of a 24-year-old man along Ridge Avenue, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni has announced.
Trey Lentz, 21, of Asbury Park, is charged with first degree attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and obstruction, officials said.
The charges stem from the 1:10 p.m. ‘shots fired’ incident that called Neptune Township and Asbury Park police officers to the area of 48 Ridge Avenue in Asbury Park. When officers arrived, they learned that the 24-year old man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was already in a car that was being driven to the hospital by his friends, spokesman Chris Swendeman said in a written statement.
Officers escorted the car to the hospital and ensured that the victim received medical attention, he said. The victim received treatment for his injuries at a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.
A joint investigation by the Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office led to assistance from from Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office in Lentz’ apprehension. Swendeman said Lentz climbed out of a window and was attempting to flee.
Lentz was remanded to Monmouth County Jail, where he awaits an initial court appearance.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Bogner.
