City Resident Given 20 Years For Sexually Assaulting Girl
No early release & parole supervision for life part of sentence
An Asbury Park was sentenced to a no early release, 20 year sentence for the 2014 sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced in a written news statement.
Didier Villagra, 37, of Asbury Park, was found guilty on June 7, 2017, of the first degree aggravated sexual assault, second degree sexual assault, and second degree endangering the welfare of a child charges following a 4-week trial before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge David F. Bauman.
The no early release sentence requires Villagra serve 85 percent of the sentence imposed before becoming eligible for release on parole. And while he will be subject parole supervision for 5 years following his release, Megan’s Law requires him to register as a sex offender and be on parole supervision for life.
The second count sexual assault was merged with the first count for sentencing purposes and the 10-year endangering the welfare of a child sentence will run concurrently.
The charges stem from an April 2014 incident in Asbury Park.
Villagra, a household member, entered the victim’s bedroom and sexually assaulted the young girl, officials said. The following morning, the victim reported the incident to her mother.
Investigators worked with the Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center and the joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Bureau and Asbury Park Police Department led to Villagra’s arrest on April 6, 2014.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutors Ellyn Rajfer and Stephanie Dugan, with Villagra represented by Carlos Diaz Cobo of New Brunswick.
