Police: Man tried to enter a woman's car after an attempted robbery
A 19-year-old Asbury Park man was charged in connection with a strong arm robbery incident and attempted carjacking in Ocean Township, according to a press release from the Ocean Township Police Department.
Ocean Police allege 19-year-old Shaheed J. Briggs tried to force his way into a woman’s car after an attempted robbery at the Kohl’s Department Store but the woman was able to speed away, the release stated. Briggs was later found in an apartment in Asbury Park and taken into custody.
Security personnel from Kohl’s Department Store reportedly observed two males shoplifting items in the store on Saturday, Nov. 16 and called police, the release stated.
Before police arrived, store loss prevention officers attempted to confront the two men and detain them. One of the employees was knocked to the ground in the attempt but left uninjured, the release stated.
20-year-old Neptune resident Joemar I. Anderson, was apprehended a short distance away by a loss prevention employee and Ocean Township Police officer Casey Larrison, according to the release.
The second subject, later identified as Briggs, allegedly fled south from the shopping center toward Allaire Avenue. Police later received information about a man who fit Brigg’s description attempting to enter a woman’s car, the release stated. Det. Bryan Morgan and Det. Sgt. Thomas Burke conducted an investigation and were later able to track Briggs down.
Briggs was charged with one count of robbery and one count of attempted carjacking. He was taken to Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he remains in lieu of $250,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent where he awaits a future court hearing.
Anderson was charged with one count of robbery. He was remanded to Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $100,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent where he awaits a future court hearing.
