City resident robbed while walking home from beach
Long Branch man in custody, second subject still on the loose
A 24-year old was robbed Monday after he stopped to give two men a few spare dollars.
While walking home from the beach at approximately 10:20 a.m., a resident was approached by two men near the corner of First and Grand avenues, one of whom asked the resident for two dollars, Asbury Park police Deputy Chief Anthony Salerno said.
When the resident reached to get the money, a man later identified as Joe Trevino, 34, Long Branch, allegedly grabbed the money, Salerno said. The two started to wrestle when the second subject put something to the victims head and told him to “drop the money,” he said.
The victim complied, ran and called 9-1-1, he said.
Asbury Park police canvassed the area and Trevino was located by Officer Frank Sangi a short time later, Salerno said.
Police are still looking for the second subject, he said.
Trevino was charged with robbery and is being held at Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $150,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent.
