City Utility and Tax bill payment available online
Credit card payment includes a transaction charge
Asbury Park tax and utility bills can now be paid online via the city’s website, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the municipality.
The credit card payments are administered via the Edmunds payment system and include an estimated 2.9 percent fee, according to officials.
From the news release:
In order to view the payment due, as well as to pay it, residents can visit cityofasburypark.com and look for the blue button marked “Online Payment,” located below the Breaking News banner and next to the City’s social media links and Twitter feed. View the amount and payment options by entering the address, owner name, or tax and utility account ID.
Previously the City covered the cost of all credit card payments made for tax and sewer bills, for a total of about $24,000 per year. Since the payment came out of city funds, that meant that taxpayers who did not pay their bill with a credit card were, through their taxes, paying for the credit card usage of other residents.
Now any resident using most debit or credit cards to pay their sewer and utility bill will pay a credit fee which amounts to 2.95% of the total fee. Payments made by ACH or e-check include a $1.05 fee, and payments made by a Visa personal debit card include a $3.95 fee.
Residents can pay remotely online, or at the Tax Collector’s office in City Hall at One Municipal Plaza. The Tax office is open from 9 am to 5 pm. After-hours payments can be made via a drop box to the left of City Hall’s entrance, for payment by check or money order only. Cash payments cannot be made through the drop box.
