City’s July Fourth Fireworks center holiday events
Fireworks to be held on County's top rated beach
Meteorologists say we have a cool 70 degree forecast with a low chance of precipitation in the cards for Asbury Park’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display.
Sponsored by iStar Financial and Madison Marquette, respectively the waterfront and boardwalk redevelopers, the fireworks are set to launch at 9 p.m. along Monmouth County’s top-rated beach.
On Thursday afternoon, the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium and the Stockton University Coastal Research revealed the results of its annual survey of beaches.
Voting was held from May 1 to June 19. The 2015 poll named Asbury Park number six on the list best beaches across the state and number one in Monmouth County, the city’s Director of Economic Development Tom Gilmour announced on his weekly ‘Greetings From Asbury Park’ post.
The 20-minute fireworks showcase is launched from three different locations along the beaches south of Convention Hall, Gilmour said.
“There is no other show like it,” he said.
Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs, bench cushions and blankets, iStar officials said.
Other holiday weekend events include Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ annual concert at the Stone Pony Summer Stage Friday night. Max Weinberg is expected to join guest performers The Weeklings.
For a full list of the other music showcases across the city this weekend, visit Gilmour’s News section on the city homepage: www.cityofasburypark.com.
There is also a family centered carnival equipped with rides and games in Atlantic Park, a short distance west of Convention Hall, Gilmour said.
Exhibit No. 9 Gallery For Contemporary Art’s ‘Normal is Boring; reception will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at its 550-102 Cookman Avenue location. The exhibit features artists Tonya Lee, Human Wreckage, Bohdan Burenko and Tom White.
Unique local finds are available at the city’s farmers markets – 8 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Farmers’ Market on Main Street between Fifth and Sunset Avenues, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Asbury Fresh in Kennedy Park at the corner of Grand and Cookman Avenues.
In case of inclement weather, the fireworks will be held July 5th. For more information, visit http://asburyparkwaterfront.com/events.php.
