Coffee With A Cop Returns in Asbury Park
Interfaith Neighbor’s Kula Cafe To Host Community Relations Event
Coffee With A Cop will return from 9 am to noon Dec 12 at Kula Cafe on Springwood Avenue.
First launched in Hawthorne, Calif. in 2011, the event became a national occurrence in 2016 when the Honolulu Police Department began hosting meetups, thereby making Coffee with a Cop an event in all 50 States.
The unified police community relation observance gives police officers and residents an opportunity to discuss local issues and learn more about one another. It’s mission is to build and improve trust and relationships, according to the national organizers.
Asbury Park Police Department has participated in the program since 2014.
In a written statement, local organizers said there will be no speeches or agendas, just an opportunity chat or ask questions, voice concerns, and, most importantly, get to know the officers in your community.
“The community is so used to us responding to calls for service and they should feel free to come interact with us on a positive note,” Sgt Michael Casey has said. “Just like you and me having a cup of coffee, shooting the breeze, now the public knows Mike Casey is an approachable person.”
Aside from his patrol duties, Casey [shown in feature photo] serves as the Police Department’s official spokesperson.
