County and State Candidates’ Forums on Calendar
St. Augustine's Church hosts 7 p.m. Black American Caucus event
Voters interested in learning more about county and state candidates vying for seats in the upcoming Nov 8 election will have at least three opportunities to do.
The Monmouth County Democrats Black American Caucus will host a Candidates’ Forum 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine’s Church, located at 155 Prospect Ave.
U.S. Rep Frank Pallone Jr [D-6] will be the guest speaker.
The event also features candidates Jeff Cantor, running for Sheriff; Matthew Doherty and Brenda Sue Fulton, running for the Board of Chosen Freeholders; Vincent Solomeno, III, running for Surrogate, and Lorna Phillipson, running for the District 4 Congressional Seat.
The free open public event includes light refreshments and attendance by other elected officials, organizers said.
• Also, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, a Candidates’ Forum Night will be held at the Monmouth County Library, 125 Symmes Drive in Manalapan.
Participating will be:
Board of Chosen Freeholders Republican incumbents Thomas Arnone and Serena DiMaso and Democratic challengers Matthew Doherty and Brenda Sue Fulton.
Republican incumbent Sheriff Shaun Golden and Democratic challenger Jeffrey Cantor
As well as Republican incumbent Surrogate Rosemarie Peters and challenger Vincent Solomeno, III.
• And on Nov. 2, The League of Women Voters will host a 6th Congressional District Candidates’ Forum 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Monmouth University’s Wilson Hall, located at
Candidates Frank Pallone, Jr [R] and Brent Sonnek-Schmelz [D] will answer questions from the audience, moderated by League of Women Voter’s Bill Madden.
Monmouth County towns covered by Congressional District 6 include Aberdeen, Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Atlantic Highlands, Deal, Hazlet, Highlands, Interlaken, Keansburg, Keyport, Loch Arbor, Long Branch, Marlboro, Matawan, part of Middletown, Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, Sea Bright, Union Beach and West Long Branch.
