Cyclist Hospitalized After Crash With Sanitation Truck
Long Branch Man, 85, Sustained Minor Laceration And Broken Hip
An 85-year-old bicycle riders collision Wednesday morning with an Ocean Township Sanitation truck remains under investigation, police officials announced Thursday afternoon.
According to a news release, Ronald Dunn of Long Branch was traversing eastbound on Park Avenue at approximately 9:26 a.m. The sanitation truck, operated by Gualberto Santiago was turning left to continue travel north onto Norwood Avenue when the collision occurred.
Officials said Dunn was traveling in the opposite lane and against the flow of traffic rode into the intersection and he collided with the side of the truck.
Dunn’s bicycle was run over as a result of the crash and he suffered a broken hip along with a small laceration to his head, officials said. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.
The Township of Ocean Police Department’s Traffic Bureau responded to the crash along with officers from the City of Long Branch.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Phil Jackson and Sgt. Todd Gregory; Officer Dan Weber assisted.
